Oxford GOP, Dems, to Caucus Separately Tonight

Political season is right around the corner and the local town committees are gearing up for the action.

Democrats will caucus tonight, Tuesday, July 23, at 7:30 p.m. in Room 3 at Oxford Town Hall to discuss and endorse its slate of candidates for the November election. The committee says it has a candidate for first selectman to run against Republican incumbent George Temple, but the committee will not reveal that person's name until the caucus.

Several people close to the party and heavily involved in local politics say David Heim is the candidate who will run for first selectman. Heim told Patch he could neither confirm nor deny that.

Republicans will also meet at 6:30 p.m. (check is is at 6:30; meeting starts at 7 p.m.) on July 23 to discuss and endorse candidates for the election. The committee will meet at the Oxford High School auditorium.

The committee is expected to endorse Temple and his running mate, incumbent Jeff Haney, for the top two slots.
