Oxford Historical Society to Honor Home-town Heroes

They are asking you send photos of military men and women to them.

Historical Society Peach Festival to Honor Home-town Heroes: Military Servicemen and Women of Oxford.

The Oxford Historical Society will hold their annual Peach Festival on Saturday, August 23, from 4 to 7 p.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church Fellowship Hall.

This year's photo features will be Oxford servicemen and women.  Area residents are invited to submit photos of Oxford men and women, past and present, in their military uniforms.

Residents who have photos to be scanned for the program may bring them to the Twitchell- Rowland Homestead on Sunday, July 20 or Sunday, August 3, from 2  to 4 p.m.  Photos will be scanned while residents visit the Homestead, so they may bring their original photos home after scanning.

A special feature of the Peach Festival will be the display of a series of letters written by Oxford Civil War Soldier, Albert Kimberly, to his wife during the months before his death in Louisiana.   These letters have been transcribed by Ashley Sanders, recent Oxford High School graduate and honor student.

The Peach Festival will also feature home-made peach shortcake, fresh peaches, and Rich Farm peaches and cream ice cream.
