Oxford Pays Employee $20 Per Week To Update Informational Sign

Local churches will not be able to place items on the informational sign.

The town found someone to update its informational sign near Center School in Oxford, but it will cost $20 per week according to meeting minutes from a recent Board of Selectmen meeting.

Last month, Nancy Farnsworth, of 16 Barry Road, informed the selectmen that there was no money and no one available to update the sign.

The selectmen rectified that issue by hiring Kenn Maher, effective this past Monday, as a part-time Park and Recreation employee, who will be paid $20 per week to be the town’s sign coordinator.

First Selectman George Temple pledged items would be spelled correctly. He also said it makes sense to have just one person change the sign so it will be consistent, meeting minutes state.

Temple said some area churches asked to place items on the sign but its his belief that only town items should be put on the informational sign. He also said because the town has a State Trooper people drive slower by the sign and that means they can actually read what is on it, according to meeting minutes.
