Oxford to Hold 9-11 Memorial Ceremony at Noon Today

The Town of Oxford will hold a memorial ceremony today to honor those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

The event will be held at noon in front of the Stephen B. Church Memorial Town Hall at 486 Oxford Road. The event is free and open to the public.

The event will memorialize the day in which an Islamic terrorist group known as al Qaeda hijacked planes and flew them into the the two World Trade Center towers in New York City and flew another into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. A fourth plane was believed to be targeting the nation's capitol but crashed near Shankville, Penn., after passengers tried to overtake the hijackers, according to Wikipedia.

Almost 3,000 people died in the attacks.
