First Selectman George Temple says he wants to "serve the people."

Anyone who has business to conduct at Town Hall in Oxford no longer has to remember to do it by Thursday: the will be open on Fridays beginning on Sept. 17.

First Selectman George Temple announced last week that unions representing the department heads and workers at Town Hall have agreed, after some resistance, to have a five-day work week.

Temple and was met with some resistance by town employees. A couple of employee unions met with their union representatives to see if they had any means by which to challenge the decision, but they were told Temple was within his rights to have a five-day work week.

He said he will meet with department heads in the near future to determine whether the Town Hall will still be open a couple nights a week, as it is now.

The senior center also now has a five-day week, Temple said.

“We wanted to bring the seniors to the five-day week as soon as possible because some seniors don’t have air conditioning and that concerns me,” he said.
