The unemployment rate in Oxford of 7.2 percent is significantly lower than the national and state average, according to recently released data compiled by the Connecticut Department of Labor.
According to the data, there are 564 unemployed Oxford residents among a workforce of 7,796. The Oxford rate is two percentage points below below the Connecticut unemployment rate of 9.2 percent, which is just 0.1 percentage points behind the national unemployment rate.
There are 1.9 million people in the state workforce; of those, 175,000 are currently out of work, according to labor department stats.
Oxford’s July unemployment rate shows a negative trend from 6.9 percent in June, which was the same rate in May. It had reached its lowest point of the year at 6.7 percent in April. The unemployment rate for Oxford in January was 7.4 percent.
