Sue Happy Over Industrial Property

The Town of Oxford has filed a countersuit against a company suing the town over the sale of the StealVault Datacenters building at 66 Hawley Ave.

The already convoluted disagreement between the Town of Oxford and two companies bickering over the same property just got a little more complex.

The Town of Oxford has filed a counter-lawsuit against a man who is suing Oxford by claiming the town messed up a property tax sale for land and a building at 66 Hawley Road, the site of the SteelVault Datacenters building.

The man who sued Oxford, Angelo Melisi of Shelton, claims the town messed up the tax sale and owes him $100,000 that he put down as a deposit on the building and 12 acres of property, which he agreed to purchase for $600,000.

Melisi filed that suit after the former owner of the property, a Greenwich-based company named JJT&M, Inc., which is currently in bankruptcy, said that it did not owe the town any money in back taxes. The company said it paid its fair share but that the town's former tax collector, Karen Guillet, must have stolen the money. Guillet is in prison for stealing hundreds of thousands from the town, which denies that she stole any money from JJT&M, Inc., which owed $480,000 in taxes and an additional $540,000 in fees and interest.

Once Melisi heard of JJT&M's suit, he sued the town.

However, the town recently responded in a lawsuit of its own filed in Derby Superior Court, according to the Valley Independent Sentinel.

The Sentinel reports that the town "denied Melisi’s allegations and accused Melisi of breaching his contract to buy the property. Oxford claims Melisi still owes the town $500,000, the agreed upon price for the land."

All three lawsuits are currently pending.
