Time to Weigh In on Village Center Mixed Use District

Public hearing set for Tuesday night at Town Hall.

Oxford’s Planning and Zoning Commission is holding a public hearing Tuesday night on the Village Center Mixed Use District, a pedestrian commercial area being proposed.

The mixed-use district would allow for commercial storefronts at street level and a built-in customer base in resident units above.

Ideally, the district would become a “self-sustaining development, which can serve as the commercial and cultural center of the community,” according to Planning and Zoning Chairman Tanya Carver. “The development needs to have a strong pedestrian orientation, serve as a community gathering area, with specific design features which would make it an attractive place to live, work, shop and spend time.”

Residents can give their input at the pubic hearing, starting at 7 p.m. in S.B. Church Memorial Town Hall.
