Oxford's Future Business Leaders Shine

FBLA members finish among the top in the state, seek sponsors for nationals.

Forty members of the Oxford Future Business Leaders of America team competed in the State FBLA Leadership conference in Cromwell on April 2 and several of them placed among the top competitors in various events.

Five Oxford High School students finished first or second in the state and are now eligible to participate in the national conference in San Antonio, Texas, in June. Those who placed at the Connecticut event and are eligible to attend the national conference include:

  • Will Denslow: Elected CT FBLA State President
  • Sarah DeNisco: Elected CT State Treasurer; 1st place Digital Video Production
  • Kaitlyn Speaker: 1st place Public Speaking
  • Marcea Stilson: 2nd place Business Communications
  • Adam Lindemann: 2nd place Marketing

The Oxford students are seeking sponsorships from businesses and corporations to offset the cost of the Texas trip. They are looking for help from anyone willing to contribute whatever dollar amounts they can afford.

Businesses that donate will be listed as official CT FBLA sponsors and awarded on the Oxford's FBLA platinum member list: they will be listed on shirts, FBLA advertisements and promoted in any other school event. Any business willing to sponsor the team can email s.denisco79@yahoo.com for information.

On top of achieving high marks in school and learning leadership skills, the Oxford FBLA students have participated in several community volunteer efforts this year. Perhaps the most impressive has been setting up Backpack Basics: Education for the Valley, a nonprofit group the students organize through which they have collected hundreds of filled backpacks and several thousands of dollars worth of school supplies that have gone to hundreds of Naugatuck Valley children in need.
