Oxford Schools Closed Wednesday, Feb. 13

I think you are all missing the main point of Bonnie's post. I would also like to know who is soooo important in this town that our tax dollars are paying for a town plow to clear a PRIVATE driveway! If I called the town asking them to plow my driveway, would they come? Should they come? I think not. The whole vacation point is moot. It's a personal decision that is none of our business. It is, however, our business if town money is being used to clear private driveways for people who are perfectly capable of doing it themselves.

Thank you Linda!! Exactly my point!! If our town workers were not our plowing private driveways they could be out there making the bus stops safe!
Pat, I didn't say anything about people dying in our state, I watch the news, I'm not stupid and I do have a heart! You completely missed my point in my post. Go back and read it again with an open mind! My April vacation issue was just a statement because we are now in day 4 off of the KIDS April vacation!! That was it, just my personal thoughts, not bashing any of you like most of you think! Boy you must have a complex if you've taken my post the way !

Bonnie, if indeed DPW was plowing a private driveway, did you call George Temple to complain? Posting on the Patch will not get anthing done especially since you chose to remain anonymous and there's no indication of where this happened.

be very careful was you assume of the town... my hubby was out taking care of his own customers with a huge machine we RENTED from out of town to get the job done for our customers!!! just because you see a piece of equipment plowing don't assume it's your own town!! shame on you!!!

Hi Bonnie, FYI I heard through the grapevine that they are not touching the April vacation until it becomes necessary. If you have a trip planned and they cancel April vacation, they understand that. Enjoy your trip with your family . . .

Thank You mom, I heard different but I'll hope for the best! What I've heard thru the BOE is last Friday was day 1 off of April vacation and now today is day 4...., there's absolutely other families in the same boat! A friend of mine is canceling their trip. I don't have insurance for travel because we rented a condo from the owner in St. Thomas so there's no ins there... It's all good tho!!! Thank you for your well wishes!!!

Thank You for the comments! I live in Colorado and our school system is a little different. We are only allowed to declare 3 snow days per year. We clearly don't get as much snow as you do so it usually isn't a problem. I just had never heard of taking days from breaks! Thanks again :)

@Bonnie, I'm curious to know if you did in fact get any pictures of the DPW plow or a license plate #. This would be a serious violation. To make such an accusation, I would hope that you can back it up. Thanks.

I was struggling with a 5' high pile of snow at the end of my driveway, and when a DPW plow passed by, they rightly informed me that they could not help. I am very interested in knowing whose driveway was plowed and by which truck. I give the greatest of accolades to the Oxford DPW for their handling of this storm!! In my opinion the entire town is doing a GREAT job. If what you claim is true, let's get to the bottom of it.

First of all sending kids back and forth to school isn't safe, especially in the snow. For one thing, it would make buses stop and struggle to get going again, and for another thing, bus drivers would have to drive to school a second time to dismiss the kids home. Second of all parents that usually bring kids to school that might let then take the bus is totally on backside because it doesn't have anything to do with vehicle transformation and so buses are longer vehicles than cars are.

So back on point, the school schedule. I think it is time we embrace our changing weather and come up with some alternative solutions rather than canceling vacations and school into July. There are so many opportunities for online education and I think most people in this town at least have internet access. Why don't we consider using our PowerSchool or another source to have on hand activities for the students to do at home when they are out for multiple days? The students who do the work can get their day back on the 180 schedule those who do not can take an absence or incomplete. I would think this could be done with any subject to fit into their common core for the year.

Why do you constantly cause controversy on the Patch? I've followed many articles on this site and it seems you always find a way to regurgitate your negative attitude towards the Town of Oxford, people who post, DPW, our schools,ect.ect.ect.. Do you get a rise from people commenting on your comments? There is a clinical diagnosis for people such as yourself who make baseless comments just to garner the attention (mostly negative) of other commentors (myself included because I just bit by writing this). It's called Internet Troll disease. You should seek the help of a professional. You have become the Oxford Patch Troll. Anyway, you've made some pretty bold statements about our guys from the Town Garage. A bunch of great guys, most are lifelong residents. Give them a break, this is a crazy amount of snow. I thought I read you had pics of DPW plowing out residences, if so call Georgie Boy or post them. Personally, I think you don't have pics and you're a BS'er. Prove what you say with the pics. Furthermore, congratulations on the Internet Troll Award. Wear it proud!

Yes I certainly do have pictures! Plenty of them! One of them is the pw truck with the Oxford Public Works written on the side!
I didn't yell at the man that he shouldn't be helping out, I told him that there's bus stops and roads that need his attention! This was after an hour of him plowing this neighbors driveway! An hour of our tax dollars hard at work!

I'm not the only person that's bothered by DPW plowing a PRIVATE DRIVEWAY! Read the other posts! My post from this morning was not meant for you, it was a reply to "dads" question for me!!! Are you ok with the town taking an hour to haul away snow from a private driveway? Did they come help you out? Who else did they help out rather than getting our bus stops and roads done? The town of Beacon Falls was in Oxford yesterday doing the bus stops and widening the roads. Why? How about saying thanks to those guys? How about saying thanks to the BOE workers that were at our schools with hardly any equipment getting the schools done? Those guys don't get OT like others but they were there outside with shovels! That's where my thanks go!! Yes this entire issue bugs me but seeing jobs are hard to come by, I have a heart and family, I don't think someone should lose their job over! Reprimanded? Yes... But not fired, I'm not a cruel nasty individual. There's many people whom missed my point on my 1st post, that's why this conversation has been taken completely out of text.

RAK, Are you a professional Dr? Who are you to call names and make diagnosis? You obviously don't know ANYTHING about me, I HARDLY EVER POST COMMENTS HERE! Take a look in the mirror and perhaps stop calling the kettle black. Those whom assume... You know what that means... If you missed my point of my original post, that's your issue! I DO NOT belong to ANY SOCIAL MEDIA SITES... What is it that you call the disease you diagnosed me with? Seeing your a medical professional why don't you put up a link to show all of us so we can look into this so called disorder that I may have. Are you excepting new patients? Apparently my personal Dr must not be doing her job seeing she hasn't picked up on this disease yet. I'm sure she'd love to know more about it! Oh please help me thru this disorder/disease that I'm suffering with! Is there a cure for this? I'm so worried now that I might be rubbing off on my kids, is it fatal? I'd really like to know the outcome of what I'm dealing with, maybe I'll run myself to the hospital!! You've got me soo very worried now!
If anyone else knows anything about this can you please give me info on it!! I think I may need a frontal lobotomy!

It seems premature for your friend to cancel an April trip, or even for you to say "we are now in day 4 off of the kids' April vacation." I have not read any BOE or Superintendent's statement about the April vacation being cancelled. Please direct us to that information if it is available.

Than you Bonnie for answering my question. I hope that you follow through with this and hold the PW accountable. Perhaps there was justification (ie; Medical emergency), but we as taxpayers should know. Until then, I hope that people will stop dumping on Bonnie and allow her to express her opinions without such cruel diatribe.

Thank you dad!! I do know that this man doesn't have any medical conditions that would warrant DPW doing his entire driveway! My 71 yr old dad was out helping my husband and myself. I was never complaining like some people are claiming! I always thought that at the bottom of the story it says "Comments" not just "compliments". I never bashed public works or the workers, I was simply stating a fact of what was happening as we all are tax paying citizens! I guess some don't see it that way!
I did send an email to Mr. George Temple but I haven't heard anything back. I'll give it a bit longer, I'm sure he's just as busy as everyone else. Have a wonderful Valentines Day!!!

Hey Smiley and the rest of you... You don't know me, you really shouldn't comment on others comments unless you know what is being talked about. Sorry that I care where my tax dollars are being used!
How many other driveways were plowed, those people whom witnessed it should come forward! I'd think its in the best interest for the residents in this town! Go back with a clear open mind and read my original post. Don't go by all these other ridiculous comments, my post was not meant the way some took it and those are the ones that started the negativity!
