Oxford Wrestlers Make the Pins and the Grades

Several Oxford athletes were honored at the all-state banquet on Sunday.

Oxford High School had an impressive showing at the Connecticut High School Coaches Association (CHSCA) All-State Banquet on Sunday. The annual CHSCA All-State Banquet is held to recognize not only the athletic performances of individual athletes, but also honors their commitment to academic performance in the classroom.

Managing both of these disciplines is a difficult task for these young athletes, and the recognition is well deserved.  To qualify for the CHSCA All-State Academic Wrestling Team, the individual wrestler must meet the following requirements:

The student-athlete must have earned an 85 percent or higher academic average in the previous marking period; an additional requirement is that no course grade be below an 80 percent.

The student-athlete must have placed in the top six places of the C.I.A.C. Divisional Meets, (Class “S”)

The student-athlete must have maintained the highest level of behavioral discipline in the eyes of the school’s administration.

“This was a tough year for us," Coach Blue said.  “We only had two returning Seniors in Mardis and Denslow, and we had to give up a few weight classes as forfeits.  Our season record reflects that in Dual Meets.  I was more optimistic about our tournament potential."

The Oxford Honorees this year were: (pictured below left to right)

Coach Blue: - 3rd Class “S”, 2 x SWC Patriot League Champions

Andy Temple – 195 lbs / 6th Place Class “S” States

Alex Mardis – 182 lbs / 3rd Place Class “S” States

Steve Perrson – 152 lbs / 1st Place Class “S” State Champion

In addition to making the Academic All-State Team this year, 152 lb. Steve Perrson also made the CT All-State Wrestling Team for placing 1st in his Divisional Class “S” Championships.

- The above was submitted by parent Michael Mardis of Oxford. Thank you for the submission. Congrats to the athletes!

Great to see IMTI leading the way into the solar future! I went to that school specifically toRead More become a solar electrician. It was before they had a solar program, at the time it was the E-2 electrical course. I see America has a chance to build prosperity again if we will be forward-looking about our manufacturing and energy strategies. My company, Made In USA Solar LLC, aims to contribute to that in a small way, doing what we can by only installing materials made in USA. Congrats to IMTI on their ambitious solar plans!

Archie, Your wrong. Constitutions were written for a reason not to determine whether it's a livingRead More document or not. Politicians and or Anti-Americans only believe that the constitutions are a dead document. They are excuses to put forth an agenda. Without Constitutions this country would be chaos and we wouldn't have the freedoms we have today. Only in your eye's does the words not apply because you think government can prevent and do anything they want. It's the people that rule, NOT THE POLITICIANS!

That is looking at the Constitution as a dead piece of paper instead of a living document. LivingRead More Constitutions read as if they were written yesterday not over 250 years ago. Is the Constitution living or dead. When common sense and ordinary circumstances show that the words of the Constitution no longer apply then the document is dead. That is what occurs when weapons/arms have become so powerful and dangerous that having them available in the numbers you have in this country is tantamount to ultimate murder and chaos. This is definitely not what the Framers had in mind as shown by the words prefacing the 2nd amendment referring to a militia.
