Parents of interested children are asked to fill out a survey.
The Oxford Public School system is encouraging 3-and-4-year-old children to serve as peer role models for children who have special needs.
This opportunity for select preschool children will be held in the preschool program at Quaker Farms School.
In order to be considered, students must be 4 by August 2014 and be an Oxford resident.

About the Preschool

The Oxford Preschool is an interdisciplinary, language/literature/motor/play-based program whose curriculum is based upon the Connecticut Framework for its design and planned activities. We see the role of teachers as supporters of development and, as such, our role is to promote active learning on the part of the child. Our goal is to provide an appropriate learning environment incorporating both early childhood special education and developmental preschool programs, to prepare all children, those with disabilities and peer models, for the greatest opportunities for educational success. We understand that our children learn best through self-initiated activity; therefore, our learning activities reflect this philosophy. Children selected as role models will participate in an age appropriate curriculum that will foster cognitive and social growth in preparation for kindergarten.
Children will be screened and selected based on strong language skills and appropriate social/peer interactions. Depending on level of interest, a lottery system may be implemented, if necessary.
