Big Inning, Solid Pitching, Helps Oxford All Stars Advance

The team will play Thursday night in Roxbury for a trip to the championship.

An eight-run explosion in the second inning spurred Oxford's 12-year-old All Star team to a 12-2 victory over Danbury at Shepaug on Sunday. With the win, Oxford advances to the semifinal game on Thursday.

Oxford, which won Sunday in a game shortened in the fourth inning by a run rule, was led by Cameron Thielman, who had three RBI and three hits. He doubled in the second inning and singled in the first and fourth innings.

Pitcher Jake Biondo threw well for Oxford, relying on his fastball to strike out three; he didn't allow a walk and none of the runs were charged to him.

Oxford will play Shepaug Thursday at 6 p.m. at Conway Field in Roxbury. The winner will advance in the winner's bracket to the championship.
