Community Will Flock to 'Wolverine Field' Tonight at Oxford HS

The game starts at 7 p.m. Fans are urged to wear white.

The Oxford Wolverines Football team will play for the first time under the lights tonight at what is being dubbed Wolverine Field. Oxford fans are being asked to wear white to the 7 p.m. game to "white out" the stands in the game against Notre-Dame Fairfield.

We asked some players and Coach Joe Stochmal what they thought about finally playing at the $3.1 million athletic field complex that they have been hearing so much about for the past two years.

"Obviously we're excited, but we're trying to maintain our focus on the game itself. And Notre Dame is a very good football team. They are much improved from last year, so our focus is mainly on them. We're happy that our fans can finally sit in some stands and watch us play. We want to do right by the community because they did right by us. And all of those players who played for us in the past, guys who didn't get a chance to play on a field like we're about to play on, this is for them. They put in all the hard work and the sweat and they helped us build this field, as well, because they helped build the program. And we kind of want to do this for them. We kind of want to win this game for them and our community."

"I think it’s going to be a good night. It’s better than the old dirt field where people are slipping and falling. It’s a nice, beautiful field that this community has given us; hopefully we can give them what they want to see."

Kyle Chudoba, quarterback & captain

"I think it’s going to be awesome. It’s been long awaited; we were playing on that old dirt field for years. It’s nice for the whole community to open the new field under the lights. So it should be a great night, hopefully."

Jeff Haney, fullback, linebacker & captain

"I’m actually excited for the kids in the future to be able to play on this thing for generations to come. Our kids, our grandkids are going to see this field and know that we started something pretty special here."
