Costigan finishes second in top senior boys performer.

Oxford High School All-American track and field star Taylor Drayton was recently named the top high school female performer in the area in a poll produced by the Republican-American of Waterbury.

Drayton, who won her division in the discus at the national high school track and field championship, received 665 votes, or 30 percent. Watertown's Kate Crochet took 566 votes, or 26 percent, to finish in second place.

Drayton, a junior, also performed well on the soccer and basketball teams for Oxford. She was the only Oxford athlete nominated in the girls' poll.

The Rep-Am also conducted a poll for the top senior male athlete in the area this season. Three-time All-State Senior Bobby Costigan, who helped lead the volleyball team to an undefeated season and state championship this year, finished in second place with 569 votes, or 27 percent. Costigan won state player of the year honors for volleyball.

Raymond Snyder IV of Sacred Heart in Waterbury finished first with 727 votes, or 35 percent. Cameron Swift, an All-New England Oxford track star, finished with 19 votes, or 1 percent, in the poll.
