Oxford All Stars Capture State Title

The team is looking to head to the New England tournament and will hold fundraisers to get there.

Zach Geffert was lights out on the mound, giving up no runs to carry the Oxford All Stars to a 5-0 victory over Danbury to win the Cal Ripken 46/60 State Title on Saturday.

Geffert baffled Danbury hitters, striking out 12 batters in six innings of shutdown ball and allowed only two hits.

Dean Fallas, who was 2 for 3, got things started in the bottom of the first with a single to left field and then scored on an RBI double by Matt Stordy.  Stordy would eventually score after an error by Danbury to take an early 2-0 lead.

In the third, Geffert helped his own cause with a triple and then Cameron Theilman hit into a fielder’s choice scoring Geffert.  Liam Donaldson reached base after being hit by a pitch and then an RBI single by Cameron Cooney, who was a perfect 3 for 3 at the plate, gave Oxford a 4-0 lead.

Jack Klicsu started the fifth inning with a single to right field and then advanced after a hit by Sheamus Fitzgerald.  Both runners then advanced on a wild pitch and then Klicsu scored on an RBI single by Fallas

The team captured the State Title last year as 11year olds and will now be heading to the New England Regional’s in Marlborough, Mass., starting July 19th-25th.

The team will be holding various fundraisers to help defer the cost including shake the can events at various businesses in Oxford, a dinner at Molto Bene in Ansonia on Tuesday night and Pub 67 in Seymour on Wednesday night.
