Oxford Baseball Drops 6-5 Game to Pomperaug

The Wolverines took the lead in the top of the seventh, but Pomperaug rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh for the win.

The Oxford High School baseball team lost a close game at Pomperaug, 6-5, on Friday.

Oxford rallied with four runs in the top of the final inning, but Pomperaug won in the bottom of the seventh when Jake Wilson and Matt Calzone both walked with the bases loaded for the tying and winning runs.

Gerett Delatto led Pomperaug with an RBI triple, a single and two runs scored, including the game-tying run in the bottom of the seventh. Nick Delatto had two hits and scored the game-winning run. Matt Paola scored two runs and stole four bases.

For Oxford, James Michaud had two hits and scored two runs. J.P. DeFrancesco had two hits. Jake Brown had a two-out, two-run single to help Oxford take the lead in the top of the seventh.

Oxford is 2-3 on the season. Pomperaug is 4-1.
