Oxford Cross Country Runner Earns All State Honors

The cross country teams competed in the Class SS championships on Saturday.

 

Oxford High School's Cameron Swift finished in second place overall with a time of 17 minutes at Saturday's state Class SS cross country meet at Wickham Park in East Hartford. With his performance, he becomes the first Oxford boys cross country runner to finish with all state honors. Congratulations, Cameron.

Zach Frew came in 43rd in 18:56, Richard Katrenya 61st 19:18, Brandon Au 77th 19:45, Chris Gee 100th 20:24, and Zack Latka 124th 21:06 all ran well for the boys. Oxford finished in ninth place out of 30, which is the best finish to date for an OHS boys' cross country team.

The girls team finished in sixth place out of 30 teams. Savada Robinson led the Oxford girls with a 20th place finish in a time of 21:42 over the 3.1 mile course. Elizabeth Racsko came in 34th in 22:36, Rebecca Buswell was 37th in 22:38, Brianna Hoffner was 38th in 22:39, Becky Gumbrewicz was 62nd in 23:42, Lindsey Koski was 97th in 25:08 and Elsie Aubry was 118th in 26:44. Robinson, Buswell, Gumbrewicz and Racsko all ran their fastest times of the season. All of the girls, except Hoffner, ran in the state meet for their first time and are all in ninth or tenth grade.

The sixth-place finish was the third best finish in the class meet for the history of the OHS Girls team.
