Oxford Softball Wins SWC Title

Team defeats Brookfield 3-2 on Saturday.

The softball team won the South-West Conference championship Saturday night by defeating Brookfield 3-2.

Oxford was lead by freshman pitcher Ashley Guillette, who got the win (she struck out 12 batters), went three for four at the plate and scored two runs. She earned most valuable player honors for the tournament.

Clare Michalak had a huge, two-RBi double for Oxford in the third inning Saturday at DeLuca Field in Stratford. 

Marisa Downs and Kaley Kempf had RBIs for Oxford, while Veronica Cirrincione chipped in with two hits.

Oxford had lost to Brookfield 1-0 in the regular season. Brookfield was ranked first in the tournament, while Oxford was ranked second. 

Oxford plays at home Wednesday in the second round of the state tournament after receiving a bye in the first round.
