Oxford Volleyball Falls Just Short of SWC Title

Team loses to Masuk in final.

The Oxford High School volleyball team beat the state's No. 3 ranked team, Masuk, the second of four games, but fell short overall in a 3-1 defeat in the South-West Conference championship game at Oxford on Thursday, according to the Republican-American.

Game scores were 25-22, 25-27, 25-21 and 25-18. Masuk also beat Oxford, 3-0, in the SWC final last year and twice in the regular season this year, the Republican-American reports.

Masuk improved to 18-2 while Oxford fell to 10-10. Oxford highlights included 16 kills by senior Tim Hoxha, while sophomore Rob Costigan recorded 16 kills, five blocks and 10 digs, according to the Republican-American. Senior co-captain Chris Villano had 18 assists and senior co-captain Anthony Renonzi added 16 assists and seven digs; Junior J.T. VanKamerik contributed 10 kills and three blocks, the Republican-American reports.
