Oxford Wrestlers Celebrate Seniors With Undefeated Week

The wrestling team is 14-11 overall and 5-5 in the SWC.

 

The Oxford High School wrestlers went 4-0 this past week bringing their record to 14-11 (Overall), 5-5 (SWC).

They started their streak on Wednesday with a home match against SWC rival Brookfield with a 60-18 victory. Wednesday was also Senior Night, where seniors Will Denslow (160 lbs) and Alex Mardis (182 lbs) were recognized for their 4 years of dedication to the Oxford High School wrestling team. Mardis, with a 24-6 season record, is a member of the National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and Student Council. He placed 5th in Class S States in his sophomore year and was an Academic All State Athlete. As a junior, he placed 2nd in the Nutmeg State Games and 1st at the Springfield College Tournament. He suffered an early injury, ending his junior season. He has accepted an offer to attend Penn State in the fall.

Denslow with a 22-8 season record, is a member of the National Honor Society and is on the Student Council. He also serves as President of the Connecticut FBLA and is an Eagle Scout. As a sophomore, he placed 6th in the Cass S States and was an Academic All State Athlete. As a junior, he placed 3rd at the SWC Championships and received All SWC Honorable Mention. He has not yet made a final College choice from the offers he has received. Both Denslow and Mardis capped off Senior Night by beating their opponents with pins.

The Wolverines continued their winning streak on Saturday with 3 more victories at a home Quad Dual. Oxford 46 - Bunnell 24, Oxford 72 - Northwestern 6, Oxford 60 - Thomaston 9.

In their final week of the season, Oxford will face off against SWC rival Pomperaug on Wednesday at Pomperaug in their last meet before heading to the SWC Championships on Saturday Feb. 9th. and then on to the Class S States the following weekend.
