Oxford Wrestlers Looking Strong

The Oxford High School Wolverine wrestlers took on an aggressive schedule this past week facing some of the stronger Wrestling teams in the state in both out of Conference Duals as well as strong SWC competition. The team's overall record is now 7-9, 2-4 SWC.

At a home meet on Wednesday night, Oxford took a loss to SWC rival Bethel (48-27).

The Wolverines then had a back-to-back home meet on Thursday night against New Fairfield, suffering a similar loss of (47-27).  The Oxford team understands that giving up 3 to 4 weight classes as forfeits, will make it difficult to break out of this score pattern, especially going against a New Fairfield team with an overall record of 9-1 and undefeated at 7-0 within the SWC.

On Saturday, the OHS wrestlers competed at the Farmington Duals against some very formidable competition.  Five CT High Schools competed at the annual Duals on the Farmington River competition held at Farmington High School.  Also in attendance were New Fairfield Ludlowe, Suffield, Wilton & Oxford.

There were impressive wins throughout the weight classes by Oxford during the day.  Each wrestler had four matches, and the Wolverines held their own had it been a tournament schedule as opposed to a Dual meet.

The Wolverines have an away meet against Masuk at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Masuk High School. Wolverine fans are encouraged to come out and cheer on their team to victory.
