Oxford Wrestling Looking Good

Team improves to 5-1 on the season.

The wrestling team is looking impressive so far this season with a 5-1 record overall.

The team's only loss came to New Milford, one of the top five ranked teams in the state, per state coaches' polls.

The team won two matches on Friday: 48-28 over Terryville and 63-16 over New Fairfield.

Editor's Note: Despite requests, the team has not provided individual results for what has been described as strategic reasons: coaches don't want to announce in which weight classes their wrestlers are settling in to.

To Gabby: I took your comment down because I've heard nothing about an issue with Coach Carbonaro. If you have, please email me at paul.singley@patch.com and I will look into it. Otherwise, I don't feel comfortable leaving a defamatory comment up if it might not be true. Thanks.

Paul, I heard the same thing, that he was removed as the Wrestling Coach because of another issue. He confronted an opposing Wrestler and the parent. As a Reporter, why don't you check it out by contacting the High School or Board of Education instead of relying on residents to do investigative work.

TK: FYI, my next stop was to talk to a school official about this once I got back from vacation. However, I was asking for as much information as possible so I knew a little about what to ask. Thanks.

Can we keep these threads about the wrestling team's accomplishments & not about an assistant coach? The kids are on their way to a record-setting year & that's what we should be commenting on. All the hard work, dedication, concentration & lack of holiday indulgences that they have to endure. Not some talk of an ill-tempered coach, who by his actions, only hurts the team. Let's keep it in perspective people. Take that stuff elsewhere.

Sarge..No one is trying to take away the accomplishments of the wrestling team...as I stated previously kudos to Coach Blue and his team for having a fantastic season..But as for Carbonaro..another incident on the heels of his problem during the football season, I believe merits investigation. As alleged another incident involving a student and parent, I feel deserves a public comment by the OHS officials, and to go further, if the incident turns out to be true, serious considerations should be made by Temple & Haney to remove him from the BOE, because clearly Carbonaro is unfit to serve the people of this town
Barney January 06, 2012 at 04:59 PM
This is serious. If this incident is true, and I believe it is, then why no comment. Is it because the person involved is now a BOE member? I understand this puts the Principal Savo in a very awkward position but he needs to provide answers. If I was on BOE I would want to know what happened, was a background check ever done on the coaches..... Selectman Temple has a son on the team and one has to assume he is fully aware of what happened. Is he playing politics by protecting a political ally and protecting athletics so he can get his football field built?

Barney: I'm aware of the situation and I'm working on a story about it as we speak. Expect it soon. Thanks

This is the story of which I was referring: http://oxford-ct.patch.com/articles/oxford-wrestling-coach-school-board-member-fired-claims-political-reasons
