Oxford-Masuk to Play in Big Football Game Tonight

Oxford-Masuk is this week's game of the week for NBC Connecticut.

The relatively new Oxford High School football team has a great opportunity tonight: to play on its new, artificial turf facility under the lights against the No. 16 ranked team in the state.

Oh...and the game will be televised on NBC Connecticut, which has chosen it as the game of the week.

For Masuk High School of Monroe, tonight is another big game in their storied football program.

The Wolverines come into the game with a 2-1 record, while Masuk is undefeated at 3-0.

Oxford coach Joe Stochmal said there is no question Masuk has a tradition of being a great football program.

“This year is no different,” he said. “We understand it’s going to be a challenge for us; they are explosive offensively. They score quickly. We want to stop big plays and make stops on third downs. We want to keep their offense off the field, which means we need to convert on big plays, especially on third down.”

Stochmal said his team is excited about NBC Connecticut coming to town.

“It’s a great honor,” he said. “Our community is going to be able to showcase our facility and that’s one thing I think people will be impressed about. As long as we play well, I think they will be impressed with our program, as well."

Masuk Coach David Brennan said the opportunity to be seen across the state is exciting to the athletes and coaches, as well as to Masuk’s supporters.

“We are proud or our accomplishments thus far and continue to look to the future in obtaining our goals,” he said. “We have a long journey ahead of us, but I feel this opportunity provides us the chance to showcase everything Masuk football has to offer, as well as our athletes, like P.J. Kokkoros, a senior captain who had over 200 yards of offense against Bunnell.”

Game time is 7 p.m. at Oxford High School, 61 Quaker Farms Road, Oxford, CT.
