HONORING OXFORD'S PUBLIC SERVANTS

To: PUBLIC SERVANTS OF OXFORD, CT. - -                                                      The First Selectman and his staff and commissions & boards; the Board of Education & Staff; School Principals, Teachers & Staff; Resident State Trooper, Oxford Police & Staff; Oxford Volunteer Fire Department, Fire Fighters & EMC; and all other deserving individual public servants & volunteers.

On September 11, a month ago, citizens and town officials gathered in front of Town Hall to commemorate the 9/11 attack upon our nation.  As a part of that commemoration, we gave thanks for you wonderful people who serve this town.  Most of you, and your colleagues in public service, go unnoticed as you quietly serve this town.  We who gathered at that service want you to know that we appreciate you and all that you do. At that occasion, we recognized that without your labors of love, we would not enjoy the daily peace and orderliness that makes this town special.

As a token of our appreciation, we are sending you a petition of thanksgiving, signed by the 40 people who attended the 9/11 Memorial Service, who prayed to God in thanksgiving for you.

O God, judge of all the nations, we remember before you with grateful hearts the men and women of  this town, who serve us that we might partake of the liberty and happiness that they have enabled by their labors. Bless them all in their work, and grant that they would know and receive your appreciation and ours.  Grant that by their example, that a new generation of public servants would be raised up to support them and us, to build on the foundation of public service, for our great good, and your great glory. Amen.

Note: On October 9, this note was  mailed out to Oxford public officials, on behalf of the 40 people who signed an accompanying petition of appreciation. This petiton was coordinated by Christ Church Quaker Farms (The Rev. John Donnelly, Pastor & Rector)
