Public Forum on Child Safety Will Be Held in Oxford

"The choice is to ignore the dangers faces by our children, or to come together as citizens to learn, talk and plan ways that citizens can help." - The Rev. John Donnelly

The following was submitted by the Rev. John Donnelly of Christ Church Quaker Farms:

Perhaps one of the most hidden and yet grave issues in our town, is the safety of our children. Most of us are aware that even in the quiet town of Oxford, our innocent children face dangers: abuse in the homes; bullying and violence at our schools; and reckless drivers on our roads.  Town Hall, our Resident Trooper & police, and our teachers do all they can, but this this is too big a problem to leave for them alone. They cannot personally protect all children with their own resources.

So, the choice is to ignore the dangers faced by our children, or to come together as citizens to learn, talk and plan ways that citizens can help.

In response to a horrific car accident, causing the death of an innocent child on 9/11/13, some 20 citizens have decided to assemble for a public forum on this matter. The Hon. George Temple, first selectman, and others will be attending to share their insights. This informal discussion will be held Thursday, Nov. 14, 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Christ Church Quaker Farms, 470 Quaker Farms Road, Route 67, Oxford, Conn.

All interested adults are welcome. Child care can be provided if there is sufficient interest. Simply call Christ Church at 203-888-4936 or email: ccqf@att.org. All are most welcome.
