Santa Claus in Quaker Farms This Weekend

Annual fire department popcorn ball event will be held on Sunday.

Santa Claus is coming to the Quaker Farms section of town this weekend.

Although it’s a little early in the year, Santa has told firefighters from the Oxford Fire Department’s Quaker Farms Co. that he plans to ride with them this weekend as they stroll through their neighborhoods tossing popcorn balls to children who wait outside for a snack and a view of the jolly man in red.

“When you talk to kids when they get older, it’s one of the memories they remember is Santa coming around in the fire truck,” said Dan Gramigna, first lieutenant at the Quaker Farms Fire Department. “Not only do the kids get excited about the fire truck, but now Santa is in the truck, too. People look forward to this event; it brings a little more joy to the holidays.”

Santa will be on a fire truck with his elves, while a car in front of the truck will play Christmas jingles.

Gramigna said the event has been ongoing for well more than 10 years. This year’s Santa tour through Quaker Farms will be held on Sunday morning. The tour will begin at 9 a.m. and will likely finish up in the early afternoon, Gramigna said. In case of rain or snow, the event will be postponed until the following Sunday, Dec. 18.
