Twenty fathers and high school baseball players worked on Friday to significantly upgrade the batting cage and build a new bullpen for the baseball and softball fields at .
The work was made possible by donated materials from , which donated 272 feet of railroad ties; , which donated 37 yards of process; and financial contributions from and the in Oxford. Several families also supplied homemade pizza and cookies for the workers. Parent Bill Miller thanks OHS baseball coach Brian Hourigan for planning and organizing the event.
Workers from will also be heading to the field next week to extend the water line to the baseball and softball fields, and aerate and seed the fields, Miller said. That work is vital to keep the field better maintained. Currently, the clay on the infield dries up and blows away; water will keep the clay moist and preserve it, Miller said.
