It's really sad that not enough places give scholarship money to the kids who want to go to tech…Read More schools or schools that are only one year. I couldn't find any scholarship money for my older son who went to Lincoln Tech to be a diesel mechanic and now running into the same problem with my graduate who wants to go to Porter & Chester for auto mechanics. Most are for people going to a 2 or 4 year school. People, let's not forget about the laborers (mechanics, electricians, etc.) or secretaries, dental hygenists, etc. We still need them and they need financial help as much as someone going to school to be a doctor or lawyer. So let's start putting some money out there for them. And if anyone can direct me to places that DO give scholarship money for these types of schooling, please post it. Thanks.

This is in response to CMG. My name is Fran Barr and i started the Oxford Greens Scholarship four…Read More years ago. The key to the scholarship is applying. Evidently your son or daughter didn't apply for our scholarship or they would have been considered along with all the other applicants. We have placed no restrictions on our scholarship. However, we will not change what the applicant needs to display and that is our criteria: 1) academic performance; 2) school involvement; 3) community involvement; 4) a one page essay as to why they deserve our scholarship. I will reemphasize that the student has to apply first. The process will take of itself from that point forward. If CMG would like to discuss the scholarship further he/she can contact me directly.

@george (carol) .. All I said was having restrooms that no one maintains is a joke, because they…Read More become unusable, almost deplorable, at a certain point during the event, and as such it is a joke to have them ... not as much as a joke as you reading more into than what I wrote .. I never said they were or weren't doing the restrooms, field house, storage nor commented on the Bose, I know nothing about the speaker system.. What I do unequivocally know is, no matter how perfect the project turns out you will never be happy, because you are simply one of those bitter people where "nothing is ever good enough"...Have a nice day :)

@Me: maintain the restrooms, period. Provide storage and a field house. This town does not need an…Read More outdated Bose system. ("Try" to be current now.) I do know who you are so going forward if you are to address me, address me by my proper name lest I begin to use your real name, coward.

Congratulations to Jen LaCapra for making this program a reality at OHS! All the athletes and…Read More partners are fantastic! It is by far the most heart-warming and motivating sight to see them all play any given sport together as a team!

You can help in this effort by adopting your street or part of your street and cleaning up the…Read More litter along the roadside. If you have vacant property across from your home, help out by picking up the litter along it. You don't want to want to look out at trash, do you?

Jennie is an awesome teacher/advocate for the young.
She teaches her students life lessons. In her…Read More classes, her "kids" have to make a business, they have to select a slate of officers, profit and loss statements, they even sell stock in their company. She teaches them how to succeed in the real world. Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) is another organization she participates in with her students.
Congratulations, Jennie, another job very well done!
You make us proud.

Hi Sarah: That was my mistake. I apologize. It has been fixed. Thank you.

It looks like the collected items are sold to a third party who then must resell in order to make a…Read More profit; different from a donation to say, Goodwill? Who benefits from this transaction other than the PTO?

I thought I had written something like that. Thanks. I will ask.

I have to say I was very happy with the Town, especially Public Works during the blizzard. Oxford…Read More got plowed out a lot better than other towns did! That meant people were able to get to work. Right?? Not to mention daily updates by phone with some humor. I hope they do get a playground with some grant money. My son is older and won't use it, but I see a lot of young families with young children--a playground would be great! And yes, I had to replace my mailbox for the second time in 10 yrs, and I do see a lot of busted mailboxes after a storm cleanup....lets see something done about that! It seems like its the same guy all the time that does the plowing of the streets, so can something be done about that??

@smiley... My comment wasn't even at you.. If you read to comment above mine you'll understand!!…Read More Read others before just mine! You have a issue with me and I'm curious to who you really are!
This neighbor is YOUNGER than MY DAD! And no I'm not referring to the snow storm and his mail box! 2 weeks ago his mailbox was hit by his own vehicle as he was backing out of his driveway! Why does the town come and replace the entire post, new hole and all for something he did on his own? Lets talk logic here! How do you know he wasn't getting help by me and my family? Huh? Do you know for a fact? No you don't! So why don't you read other posts besides mine? I don't recall a massive snow storm 2 weeks ago, do you? Maybe perhaps if we could've gotten into our street with the snow blower it would've been used in his driveway. You don't know because you're not here! Maybe perhaps I'm not the one with the problem with him! Ahhh, you never thought of that now did ya? No he speaks to NO ONE around here, I've got neighbors all around me that we are all friendly with! How bout you? Matter a fact, I offered an extension cord to him when there was no power, you wanna know what this man did? Poured gasoline on 5 new pine trees we planted! Yup.., so you don't know me nor this guy nor any of the other neighbors that have tried helping him! Why don't you go try?

If we do decide to travel down this road again, I hope we learn from our mistakes.
1) Looking back…Read More on this project, it would have maybe been nicer to erect something more traditional that would played along with the town colonial character. If anyone has ever driven past North Haven's new high school ... I think you'll understand my point. At 1st, I thought the Oxford HS design was OK, but each time I drive past the collection of four color bricks, the use of metal, all the different sections, and the flat roof ... I now think, more traditional would have been nicer and better suited to Oxford’s character.
2) Concerning the pool, I fully endorse it, however ... a) the design was far short sighted with the placement of the spectator viewing area, and b) the absence of a residential access and changing area is a roadblock to greater public use. The pool is an expensive operation. It could have been built such to provide much greater utilization and maybe pay for itself ... if not even generate a profit.
Live and learn hopefully ... just my two sense.

Hey Dick,
My thoughts on the materials - we used whatever was on sale that week; it didn't matter…Read More what it looked like.

I know for a fact that the crack goes from the second floor up, other students reported seeing it…Read More all the way on the first floor. That doesn't seem 'safe' to me. It honestly sounds like a foundation problem. The school had problems with the soil on the soccer field last year, whose to say that same soil isn't causing a problem with the foundation of the school. I'm no expert but I can put two and two together. Obviously Oxford once again cut one to many corners.

Infrequent and unique spending activities, in this case associated with the facilities, which are…Read More not part of normal annual direct operating expenses.
Richard Burke March 12, 2013 at 05:13 pm
For now, only a line item with reference to Center School as the main issue. This pot of money will…Read More ultimately be increased by state reimbursement if, and when, a solution is presented and approved.
The solution yet to be decided ...either, nothing at all ... or, a complete new replacement (maintaining a 4 school district) ... or, maybe (hopefully in this taxpayer's eyes), increasing the size of QFS & GOMS, thus less admin expense and more money available for direct education, and overall maybe less expensive.
All yet to be researched and evaluated by a school facility study committee.
