Unfortunately Susan, your heart and mind are hardened. You mentioned that athiests have no problemRead More with the cross, really? How many times has athiests sued to have crosses removed, "IN GOD WE TRUST" to be removed? The list goes on. Maybe the DMV should just go back to alpha numeric plates with no personal messages. Do people who do this think this makes them standout or recognized? Nobody cares.

In late 2007 the US Dept of Energy (under George Bush) was developing a conditional loan guaranteeRead More commitment to Solyndra. It was later approved under Obama. Ironically, Solydra's problem is that competing technologies got cheaper. Good news for panel buyers, bad news for Solyndra. If America were to get more serious about developing technology we could keep the solar jobs here instead of exporting the jobs to China............... http://www.solartoday-digital.org/solartoday/20111112#pg12
Tom Adamski April 20, 2014 at 11:49 am
Powers still doesn't get it. Yes, it takes energy to build a panel, and it also takes energy toRead More build an oil or coal plant, (and energy to extract the coal or oil) Once the solar panel is built, the energy comes from the sun. is that difficult to understand? Solar energy does not cause respiratory illness as fossil fuel does (as stated by the American Lung Association). Furthermore, burning of fossil fuels is increasing the acidity of the oceans, a serious threat to life in the oceans.

We could really use the equivalent of the French Revolution here, have the modern day robber baronsRead More be made to pay for what they've done and are doing to the country and the thieving politicians who are in their pockets stripped of the perks that they vote themselves and tossed in jail.

@Walt: Yes, or we could do like ACORN did and protest in front of the houses of these people,Read More screaming about inequality. Jealousy and envy are ugly and cruel taskmasters, Walt. Don't let them cloud your vision. Success is not a fair playground. Whiners don't win and deservedly so.

It is unfortunate (but also 'unfortunately' necessary) that we are all having this discussion. ThisRead More man made a very personal decision, planned his demise and consummated it - all without harming another human being. He even left detailed explanations behind, for those that he left behind. Was he depressed? Maybe. Or, maybe he truly felt he was leaving the game "at the top of his game". There will always be differing viewpoints on suicide and assisted suicide. But, people will still continue to do it - whatever their reasons may be. We are a society of laws, and the debates will continue forever on this topic (just like the debate over abortion). There is no perfect answer. In the end, I just say RIP Mr. Banks, and I choose to believe that he is with his loved ones again, in a better place. And, I respect his right to make that very personal decision.
Igor April 20, 2014 at 11:20 am
Cliff I read the article. Personally I would find another source for my information, or let's say aRead More second source. This is obviously a bias view. The site is anti-abortion and pro-life. From everything I read on the net, this is the only site that has come up with this little gem.

The death penalty certainly cuts down on the record number of incarcerations in America. Enough ofRead More this liberal crap on humane punishment. It sure helps that I'm a little old lady because I just bring my cup from home from the last time IRead More was at a store. Hey, Tom Renzo ... I'll provide one answer to your 2 insulting postings directly above. AND RenzoRead More I'll make my comment without using the juvenile "Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm" and "LMAO!!!!!!!!" and "DOHHHHHHHHHHH" you use when you can't think of anything intelligent to post. From likely the SAME study you got your partial "facts" from, further down the complete article on the study clearly stated the following: "Unfortunately, many contemporary discussions rely on misinterpretations of cross-sectional data. The New York Times recently conducted a cross-sectional study of murder rates in states with and without the death penalty, and found that “Indeed, 10 of the 12 states without capital punishment have homicide rates below the national average, Federal Bureau of Investigation data shows, while half the states with the death penalty have homicide rates above the national average.” However, they erroneously concluded that the death penalty did not deter murder. The problem is that the states without the death penalty (Alaska, Hawaii, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, Rhode Island, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Vermont) have long enjoyed relatively low murder rates, something that might well have more to do with other factors than the death penalty. Instead one must compare, over time, how murder rates change in the two groups – those adopting the death penalty and those that did not."
