The Oxford Lions Club is a civic organization that helps people in need.<br><br>It is particularly active in fund-raising projects that benefit eye research, diabetes detection and sight-related problems. The organization also awards scholarships to graduating seniors from Oxford and citizenship awards to deserving eighth graders at graduation.<br><br>The Lions Club also sponsors the D.A.R.E. program at Great Oak School. The club has made various contributions to the town including the skating pond at Town Hall, Holiday lights on Town Hall. Its current project is improvement of Kirk&#39;s Pond. Among their fundraisers are a Valentine’s Day Dance, a Car Raffle and a Poinsettia Sale.<br><br>New members are selected on the recommendation of existing members and after being screened by the membership committee. To be eligible, candidates must demonstrate a willingness to be involved in the club&#39;s projects and to attend meetings.<br><br>The club meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at Rose&#39;s Family Reastaurant. During July and August, it meets only on the fourth Wednesday.
